When Jeff Mangum is not writing, composing, and performing music, he enjoys making art. Some is featured on albums, some is made and sold for charity, and some is just for his own creative output. In this post I would like to share some of Jeff Mangum’s art with you.
I have been a huge fan of Neutral Milk Hotel since 1998 after the release of their second album. Some of my favorite songs include Holland, 1945, Two-Headed Boy, Oh Comely, In An Aeroplane over the Sea, Song Against Sex, and Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone. I was deeply saddened to discover that they had gone into seclusion just as I had come to love them. Luckily, they toured again in 2013, 2014, and 2015. I finally got to fulfill my dream of seeing them on 07/20/2014 at the LC Pavilion in Columbus, OH. It was as amazing as I could have imagined. The band sounded shockingly as good live as they do on their albums. Seeing so many instruments being played to perfection on stage was impressive. Time had also not diminished the sound of Jeff Mangum’s voice. It was unlike any show I had ever seen and I even bought a t-shirt as a souvenir. I recently discovered that they do not plan on touring again. I am very grateful to have been able to see them live.
